Stupid Message

Kitty stormed into Sanctuary, after presenting a calm facade to Dev, who was guarding the door. She glared around until she found Otto sitting alone off in the back. She had been directed here when she had gone to find him. She went directly to him, refusing to stop for anyone that got in her way.

She stopped at his table and glared for a moment before sitting down across from him. Usually she would sit her showing him so much disrespect. Otto was a big guy, and scary too, but she didn't care right this moment.

He glared right back as she took the piece of paper from her shirt and slammed it down on the table. "This is a message to you from Stryker." She said in a soft cold voice.

Otto sighed and took the paper up from the table, unfolding it and reading it. He sighed heavily and leaned forward, shoving the paper in his pocket. He glared at Kitty who had sat down across from him. “Thanks for that…” He said sarcastically and took a long drink from his glass. I can’t do this right now. I’m not in a good mood to deal with this… He set his glass down, rubbing his temples a minute before addressing Kitty. “When did you talk to Stryker anyway?”

Kitty bit her lip and sighed, thinking about the best way she could address the question and wondering which parts to tell him and which to leave out. She decided that the best course of action was to order a drink and ignore the question till it came. She raised a finger to Otto and got up, rushing across the bar and ordering some Sweet tea, knowing Mama would take care of it. She ran back to Otto, hoping she hadn’t pissed him off too much. She sat.

Otto ground his teeth as he watched her sit, that stupid smile on her face. Sometimes he just wanted to wring this one’s neck. As much as she was a credit to her line of work, she could be so frustrating sometimes. Otto tapped his fingers on the table, slowly as to unnerve her more than she already looked like she was. When one of the boys brought over her drink, Otto reached out and took her hand as she reached for the glass, holding it tightly. “Answer.”

Kitty hissed in pain as his fingers tightened around hers. He didn’t realize sometimes how strong he was…well..maybe he was purposely hurting her right now. She wrestled her fingers a little free, but not all the way, which only succeeded in hurting herself more than she already was. With a little hint of pain in her voice Kitty said, “Please let go of me Otto, I’ll answer.”

Otto nodded and let go, leaning back across the table and crossing his massive arms over his chest. When he said he wasn’t in the mood, he meant he really wasn’t. His head was pounding and the paper in his pocket wasn’t helping. “Alright then start…”

Kitty bit her lip and took a slow drink. She set the glass down, feeling horribly nervous for allowing herself to be so stupid. She took a deep breath. “Well I was down in the Quarter and he just kinda, grabbed me and shoved me into his bolt hole.” She shrugged. “He tortured me a little to try and get your location out of me and I said no every time.”

Otto put his face in his hands, rubbing his temples and making a soft annoyed groan. This was too much. She was suppose to understand how to avoid that very thing happening. He shook his head and looked at her through his fingers, his eyes angry enough to drop her right there had he possessed that ability. “You’re an idiot sometimes…”

Kitty winced a little. That hurt. He didn’t have to resort to calling her names…She lowered her eyes to the table. It wasn’t like she already wasn’t feeling bad enough about it without him making fun of her. She looked up with a defiant little look on her face. “To be fair I fed a whole bunch, probably about 20, of his new daimons crazy prisoner souls. They’ll be dead in the week.”

Otto rose both eyebrows, dropping his hands onto the table. He wasn't happy about her being so stupid, but he did see the good that came from the situation. She had caused the ultimate death of a whole group of new daimons, effectively eliminating everyone of Stryker's new troops. Otto sighed resignedly and nodded, finishing off his drink.

"Alright...maybe you aren't as big an idiot, but Kitty..." He leaned forward a little, giving her a menacing glare. "I thought you were trained better? I thought you were smart enough to avoid getting captured." He huffed and shook his head. "Just be more careful. I won't come get you if he does it again..." Otto chuckled. "What if your brother had found out?"

Kitty wrinkled her nose. She didn't even want to think about what River's reaction would have been had he found out. He had always been protective of her, overly sometimes, and she could only imagine what it would have been like if he'd discovered that she had been hurt. She bit her lip and looked up at Otto. "You're right Otto, I should have been smarter, I should have been paying better attention."

She lowered her eyes, guilt creeping up inside her. She felt horrible. If River had found out there really wasn't any doubt that he would have tried to save her and then she might have cost him his life. She felt as though she had royally screwed up. "I'm sorry..." She mumbled, looking at the table. "I really am an idiot."

Otto huffed a little. He shook his head and reached out, taking Kitty's hand and squeezing it once, softly, before letting it go and pulling his hand back across the table. "Kitty...no...I don't think you're really that dumb. I just think you could have been a little more vigilant." He nodded as he was brought a new drink and picked it up, taking a small sip and setting the glass back down.

He didn't really feel that bad about making her feel guilty, even though he knew he should. It was her responsibility as a squire to pay attention when she was out, and the fact that she hadn't deserved a reprimand. He looked out at the bar. "So, what are you going to do?"

Kitty chewed her lip thoughtfully. "Well..honestly I don't know." She leaned back, wondering where she could go from here. Stryker would definitely be pissed when he found out what she had done to his daimons. A large group of daimons doesn't fall over dead for no reason and the fact she had taken them to feed would make it obvious what had happened.

Kitty sighed. She hadn't really thought that part of the plan through very well. She looked up at Otto. "I guess do my hardest not to get killed?"

Otto shook his head, determined not to laugh. Despite what people though he did have a sense of humor in him. He leaned forward on the table, giving Kitty his best angry glare. It was hard to stay mad at her when she had a point. "You're damn right you'll not get killed." He gave a huff which he noticed made Kitty's hair fluff up, and rested his chin in his hand.

"You Kitty sometimes I wonder why I put up with you."

Kitty giggled. She knew he wasn't angry anymore and she smiled inwardly. Thank the gods for her sweet innocent act. It always got her by when it came to her brother or sometimes Otto. She leaned forward with him and gave a huff that was extremely pitiful compared to his little mini wind gust.

"Well Otto, I suppose you put up with me because you love me soooo much." She leaned back and cupped her own cheeks. "Besides, I'm just so damn cute." She said in a mocking impression of Otto.
